I'm hearing murmurings that most of the country is snowed in. This may mean that some of you with little people might be needing a little diversion.
I bring you Homemade Play dough.
The ingredients are simple.
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tbsp. oil
2 cups water
few drops food coloring & extract for color and scent.
This is pretty easy to whip up too. Princess made a few batches for Bubby the other day.
Mix dry ingredients, add water stirring until smooth in sauce pan. Heat slowly until mixture "lumps" together. Knead until consistency of Play dough. Keep in tightly closed container in refrigerator.
**The recipe says it will last 1-2 weeks, but we've had it last for over a month. Just watch for mold.
From our house to yours, happy snow days. Enjoy, I know Bubby has sure enjoyed this special gift from his big sister. (He hasn't been snowed in, just rained in many day this winter.)
I made this and had hundreds (well lots) of cookie cutters. We made everything from this playdough.
ReplyDeleteThe kiddos have so much fun with this stuff. One year I used red and black food coloring, and made lady bugs for party favors. Princess had a buggy birthday that year, so it was a real hit. (With my pocket book, and the party guests!)
ReplyDeleteNot only is it cheaper than the stuff you buy at the store, it doesn't seem to dry out as quickly. Homemade Play dough just feels nicer to work with. If that makes any sense.
I love the intensity that Bubby is playing with! Don't you just love the whole homemade thing of everyone getting involved in the process?!
ReplyDeleteI just made this with the kids. We did green with mint extract. It's not snowing anymore, but it is hot and humid. We are going to practice our cuneiform writing (ancient Egypt). Yes, we have started school again. Thanks again for the post.
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome. Yes, hot and humid drives you inside just as much or even more than the cold. Good luck with the new school year. We are waiting to start up again until Sept.
