Ghetto Ritas

My friend Jodi introduced Mr. Nomad and me to the Ghetto Rita this summer. We chuckled, as we just moved from the Ghetto. (That's what everyone calls the neighborhood we lived in on base.) Oh, it would have been the perfect drink to sip on hot summer DC nights. So this recipe is for all of our friends from the hood. (Others may feel free to partake as well.) Mix yourselves a picture, and make a toast to wonderful memories and our time at Bolling. Here's Mr. Nomad helping our friend Katy brew beer. Katy always made her brews a party. The photo gives you a feel of the ghetto. I can't say that I miss sharing a carport living, but the fun our family had will remain some of our most cherished memories.

Without further adieu, I bring you. . .

Ghetto Ritas

1 can (6 oz.) Margarita mix-frozen
2 cans Sprite
2 Coronas
3/4 can of tequila

Blend together and serve over crushed ice.
Enjoy in moderation. These are very smooth, and could easily sneak up on you. I'm a 1-2 drink gal, so I can't attest to the effects of anything more than that. ;)

Here Mr. Nomad and I are enjoying Ghetto Ritas with some friends here in Oklahoma.

  2. I am totally cracking up at that picture! Totally ghetto, we were. Here's a recipe for Ghetto toffee to go along with your ghetto-ritas! Lay saltine crackers in 1 layer on a ridged cookie sheet. Heat 1 stick of butter and 1 cup brown sugar to boiling in a saucepan; boil about 5 minutes, stirring. Pour over crackers and put in a 350 degree oven for about 6 minutes. Remove from oven and evenly sprinkle a 12 oz bag of chocolate chips over. Wait about a minute, then spread the chocolate over all. Can also be sprinkled with nuts, candy, etc. but good just on its own.

  3. Another Ghetto Inspired Cocktail...

After Teppy Bambinger's return from deployment a very inebriated quartet (which will remain nameless) invented a new drink in the very carport of Bolling that you write about.

1 part Champagne (the cheaper the better!)
2 parts Boone's Farm wine (any flavor)

    Enjoy the Boonetini!

Hines Family girl, you Bistro folks were crazy. I've never been quite brave enough to try the Boonetini. Have you found a home for Spider Pig?
